i resolve...

Resolution: the act of resolving; the act of answering or solving; the act of determining; a formal expression of opinion, will, or intent...(and so on).

I like New Year's Resolutions. Some people don't make them because they think they always fail at them & that there is no point. I don't consider it a failure if you set realistic goals & do your best to reach them. I do not make resolutions that have to do with my character because that is a work that God alone can do if i am willing (& i am). I feel like it is up to Him to decide which things i need to change to make me a better person. Or if i do set a goal that has to do with character or attitude, it is probably because He has already begun to deal with me on that particular issue. I also do not make tons of resolutions on every little thing about me that needs to be fixed! Be nicer, bath the dog weekly, stop biting fingernails, floss daily, etc etc etc. No wonder people think it's pointless to make New Year's resolutions!! That is too much & overwhelming! Instead i just pick 1-5 things that i really want to make a priority! I may make other goals throughout the year & that's okay, but i don't need a mile long list of NY resolutions. That's setting yourself up to fail.

I have thought about this year's resolutions but wasn't sure. Last night i wrote a blog telling you that i usually know my resolutions for the next year by now, but that i hadn't a clue! However, as last night went on, i got a clearer idea of what i should aim towards next year.

And so, here are my resolutions for 2010.

1. Read the Bible in a year.
Usually i am not one who thinks it is necessary to read your Bible in a year. If you asked me if it was better to read, study & devour 1 book of the Bible or read through the entire Bible, I'd go for the first idea. Quality over quantity. However, it seems my spiritual life has taken a bit of a backseat. I've read TONS of novels this year & 3 nonfiction books (a biography & 2 books about weightloss). Did i read my Bible? I'm ashamed to say, maybe once. Maybe twice. PERHAPS 10 or 15 times. That's it. That's not a lot. At all. I miss it. And i need it. I think determining to read my Bible in a year will help me with the discipline aspect of it, if nothing else (though we know it won't be "nothing else")! My husband is also doing this so i'm going to follow the same reading plan he is!

2. Get thru my HTML book.
I bought a book on HTML & completed Chapter 1. Since then i've been so busy, i haven't touched it. But I've been interested in it & have really wanted to learn it! So even if it takes me the whole year - I resolve to get through that book. =)

3. Be Healthy
I had realized this was the first time in YEARS that i had no "lose weight" resolutions. This is not because I have lost the weight, but it is because i have already made lifestyle changes that will affect my health in a positive way. I have been working on it gradually since June & I have lost 10 pounds. (I know that is slow, but i did say GRADUALLY!) This year i do plan to continue this healthy lifestyle, making positive changes little by little. If you want to follow me on this journey, I have a weight loss blog that I've been writing in faithfully since June of 2009. It is definitely helping me to continue on this healthy journey that I have started. =)

There are other things I would like to do. I would like to set aside money for a house. I would like to buy a good camera & learn to take great pictures. I would like to continue to cook & learn to make delicious HEALTHY meals. I would love to organize this house & get rid of everything i call junk! I want to join a Bible Study group. These are things that should & hopefully will happen in 2010! But my resolutions are the ones i listed above! We'll see how it goes!

What are your New Year's Resolutions or goals for 2010?

I wish you & your loved ones the best in 2010! It's gonna be a great year!
