On Scripture & Temptation.

After some encouragement from Megan & Laura, I decided to join Beth Moore's scripture memorization team.

Basically, you pick a verse you want to memorize. If you can't think of one, there are TONS  in her comments (like over a thousand) that you can "steal" & memorize! Whatever verse means most to YOU for where you are in your life right now. THAT'S the verse you are going to want to get down into your spirit.

For those that aren't sure about that... trust me. Memorizing a verse - meditating on it - instead of just reading it really quick in the Bible & forgetting it in 10 seconds - is SO GOOD. It gets in your soul & transforms you! Your mind! Your thoughts! Your heart! It's good. That's why i am doing this. Because it's been awhile since i've memorized scripture & allowed it to really change the way i think!

There will be a new verse every two weeks; on the 1st and 15th of each month. So today is the second one & I am just joining in. You can too! :) If you are interested, GO HERE, read her instructions & then leave a comment with your verse! (Make sure you read it first!)

So here is my verse.

"No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it." 1 Corinthians 10:13

That was not written by memory. YET. I have the first half! :)

I picked this verse because i am not eating sweets, desserts, or bad carbs, or starches. I can have SOME starches, but only in moderation. The other things - not at all.

I know this may seem crazy to some, but it's not. You see, what many do not realize is that it's not ALWAYS calories in/calories out. It's not ALWAYS move more, eat less. Not for every single person. I have been moving WAY more & eating WAY less since 2009 than in any year previous & i still struggle with weight. I strictly counted calories for 14 weeks - HARDCORE - while exercising 5x a week - also, hardcore - & i gained one pound. So please do not believe that it is always as simple as everyone says - and just count your blessings if it's not that hard for you!

No, for me, the weight didn't come off. It took some tests, but we discovered a medical problem that was keeping me from losing weight. I am now on medicine for that but STILL WILL NOT LOSE WEIGHT if i do not watch my sugar & my carbs. It's just the way i have to do it. It sucks. But it's good. For many reasons. But that's another post.

You may or may not remember this, but back in November, I quit sweets, bad carbs & starches for 34 days. Then Christmas came & I messed up (even though i managed to do well through Thanksgiving!). I am back on it now, though. I saw the weight trend since i started that... and EVERY WEEK there was a loss (Except for one week when it was my time of month.). After that - a gain - EVERY WEEK. Was i binging? NOPE. Was i eating large portions? No, not really. But i was eating some sweets. Another thing i realized is that i am ADDICTED to sweets & breads. ADDICTED. Which is why after 34 days off, having just ONE cookie, made me want to eat the ENTIRE BATCH. (And trust me - i did eat more than my share.)

So. I'm cutting it out again. And i think this verse is a good one for me. :)

Here's praying & believing & hoping i stick to it longer than 34 days this time!

Back to the point of all this - JOIN US, will ya? Pick a verse & add it to Beth's comments HERE. But first read her instructions!

ADIOS!

  1. Love your openness and honesty. So many of us have our own struggles and issues... It's so refreshing to hear your heart. Gonna steal this scripture for myself!
